If it’s waffles you're craving, there’s only one place in Pittsburgh that can satisfy all your hopes and expectations: Point Brugge Café.
Point Brugge is located in a cozy building on Hastings Street in Point Breeze, far from any chain restaurants or heavy shopping areas.
WPXI.com critics ate there on a Sunday afternoon and were impressed by the menu, which features a prix fixe, a complete meal offered at a fixed price.
The two of us chose the prix fixe selections. I had the Eggs Benedict with crab cakes and potato strudel, and the other WPXI.com critic chose the Liege Waffles with sweet polenta fig cup.
The Eggs Benedict with crab cakes was served over a homemade baguette with fresh fruit on the side, and the combination of tastes was incredible. Our favorite part of that meal was the potato strudel, with its creamy potato and cheese in a crunchy block served over mixed greens.
We both thought the Liege Waffles were the best waffles we’ve ever had. They were not too sweet and served with a pile of fresh fruit over the top with some sprinkled powdered sugar and syrup on the side. I distinctly remember the texture of the waffles, which were only slightly crunchy, and not soft enough to fold over.
The sweet fig polenta cup gives polenta a new meaning. Served with fresh strawberries, it tastes like something your great grandmother might make (if you were Belgian).
All prix fixe meals come with an alcoholic beverage choice of either Champagne, a house Mimosa or Bloody Mary.
If you go, you should order the Brugge Frites and Moules Bowl, two of Point Brugge’s most popular specialty dishes.
Point Brugge Café is the perfect place to share a memorable meal with your family or meet up with friends for a drink.
We give Point Brugge Café 5 out of 5 dots.
